Curriculum Information 

Holy Cross Lutheran School uses the following curriculum:

The Bible – See family letter example by clicking here  – One in Christ is the name of the religion curriculum which uses simple Bible stories to emphasize God’s love for us. Each month focuses on a different theme including God’s Blessings, Family, Praise and Thanksgiving, Christmas, Love, and Easter.

Second Step Social Emotional Curriculum – See example by clicking here – Guides children to learn, practice, and apply skills for self-regulation and social/emotional competence. There are four core program components, weekly theme activities, Brain Builder games, reinforcing skills and concepts, and engaging families. Click the link to see a sample of the home letter that extends the weekly theme into the home.

Marmalade Series – Fall, winter, spring – addresses all domains. Additional curriculum listed below may support Marmalade themes.

Zoo Phonics Literacy Curriculum – Includes fun, daily lesson plans that teach phonemic awareness, and pre-reading/spelling/writing skills in a sequential age-appropriate manner. Each weekly unit highlights one of the Zoo Phonics Animal Letters, “Allie Alligator to Zeke Zebra,” in a daily format. Lesson plans include whole group instruction, rotating group activities, and one on one teaching. Literature is tied in to all areas of the curriculum.

Discovery Works Science Curriculum, by Silver Burdett Ginn – Each unit includes large size photos/posters, Big Books, activities, experiments, and games that cover a wide range of science topics such as: Plant Life, Outer Space, the Human Body, Nutrition, the Five Senses, Pushes and Pulls (simple machines), and Animal Life. This Science curriculum is used for the afternoon enrichment Science segment.

123 Science Curriculum – Focuses on hands-on science experiments and activities for young children that teach beginning Science Skills, Topics and Wonders. This Science curriculum is used in the morning preschool program.

123 Math Curriculum – Teaches beginning math concepts for young children including sorting, counting, matching, developing shape and number recognition, understanding relationships, developing thinking skills, measuring and graphs, fractions, money, addition and subtraction. This Math curriculum is used in the morning preschool program.

Scott Foresman Social Studies Series – Addresses social studies starting with the child, their family and home, their neighborhood, their community, their city, their state, their country and the world. Children learn about various cultures, how to use a map, and what it means to be a good citizen.

I Am Moving, I Am Learning Gross Motor Curriculum – Emphasizes a healthy body, gross motor skill development such as throwing and catching a ball, jumping, hopping and skilling, playing games, and moving to music.

123 Art – Children learn to use various art mediums.

Kindermusik – Introduction to music.
